How to Install a Large Wall Mirror

by Isaac Zakar

Once the order is placed and it has been delivered there are a few things you will have to take note of if you want to install it safely. First, check out the large wall mirror to find frames around the mirror. If the frames are in place make sure there are strong screw eyes on both sides of the frame. You will need to thread picture wire from one screw end to the second end and secure the ends of the wire tightly. If there are no frames on the mirror you will need to put mirror clips in place.

He reproduced himself with so much humble objectivity, with the unquestioning, matter of fact interest of a dog who sees himself in a mirror and thinks: there’s another dog.
—Rainer Maria Rilke (1875–1926)

Before you purchase a wall mirror, decide on the wall you want to hang it. Use your pencil to mark a point on the wall exactly on the center of the mirror. You will need to mark two points to hang the mirror. Mark the points using a level. While marking the points make sure they are a bit above the screw eyes. After you mark the points with an electronic stud finder find out what lies behind the points. If there is a stud, with a drill make a pilot hole bit smaller in diameter than the wooden screw.

If you do not find a stud behind the wall use toggle bolts. You will need to follow a special technique for this. After the screw head is snug by the wall unscrew it to get the picture wire around the screw head. If there is a drywall behind the marks that you have made with a toggle bolt fix the wall mirror clip on the wall. Never tighten the clips unless the mirror is in the desired position. When you purchase a mirror you can ask the store to send over someone to help you with installation. That will make the job of installing the mirror an easy job.

Commitment, by its nature, frees us from ourselves and, while it stands us in opposition to some, it joins us with others similarly committed. Commitment moves us from the mirror trap of the self absorbed with the self to the freedom of a community of shared values.
—Michael Lewis (late 20th century)
